The first date is always the hardest date of them all. I had that experience on Friday. We met through a dating service online and we did the normal exchange of information via email, then we took the next step to phone calls, and finally graduated to the first date.
The entire process of the first date is very difficult. You begin on where to go? Essentially you would like a place where you can have a good conversation. You want to keep it very comfortable and low key so meeting for cocktails is perfect. What bar? I mean we have tons of bars in the city. Luckily, my date made the suggestion, the plans, and the time. I was impressed and relieved of that duty.
Then you have to choose the outfit. You want to look good but not overly done. You want to make an impression but not a statement. You to show your date your style but make it look effortless, even though it wasn't. This step alone took me an hour and half.
The date is at 9 so no Latino time for that. You make sure your on time, don't show my Latino time until the 5th date, if there is one. I got to the bar, I was first and I ordered a drink. Then he walked in. Much better looking in person than in picture. You can see he was nervous as hell and that made me more comfortable to know I was not the only one. The first 5 minutes were crucial to know where the night was headed.
Fortunately, we hit it off and talked for a couple of hours. Getting to know each other and background. It's very much like an interview for a job. But during this time you can't help but flash forward. Does he make a good boyfriend, is he fun, is he selling his true persona, will my friends like him, can i see myself with him? All valid questions that necessarily don't need to be asked at that time but your mind can't help but wonder all these things.
The date ended on a good note of a hug and thanks for hanging out. We both said we had a good time and we would like to hang out again. Is this true? or are we being polite? Stay tuned.......
