Not only was Halloween the number one movie in America, it actually broke the record for the highest opening for labor day weekend taking in 31 million over the 4 day weekend. The new take on the John Carpenter classic, only cost 15 million to shoot and has surpassed the studio's expectations by nearly 12 million.
Halloween came at a time when studio execs have claimed that the horror movie has definitely died with the flop of Hostel II and Skinwalkers.
