On Saturday I had the privilege of attending the 2008 Human First Gala as a guest of ALMA. My boyfriend, Michael, and I attended the black tie event that raised over 1 million dollars for the Center on Halsted. Here I am with Julio Rodriguez the President of ALMA.

Michael and I striking a pose. I have to say that there were so many people that came up to us and said we were such a cute couple. I can't tell you how flattering it was to hear all the compliments about us. One person even referred to us as the "sorbet couple" due to the color of our vests.
The gala was quite impressive with funny woman Kate Clinton as our guest MC. The event was held to raise funds for the Center of Halsted and to honor Patrick Shehan for all his fundraising efforts for the center. Judy Garland's daughter, Lorna Luft, was our guest performer and she was amazing. She had quite a voice that reminisced of her mother's.
It was such an amazing experience to be in the company of successful gay men that stood for the opposite of all the stereotypes that plague our community. We came together as a community to make a difference in the lives of those in need of help and guidance that the Center of Halsted provides for LGBT.
