Book Club: Purpose Driven Life Ch 6: Life is a Temporary Assignment

Another repatative chapter.

Earth is our temporary residence, we won't be here long so we are told not to get use to it. Our identity is in eternity and our homeland is heaven. So basically this chapter found many comparisons to a temporary living situation. We are living on earth just waiting to be called and enter the kingdom.

Point to Ponder: The world is not my home.

Verse to Remember: "So we fix our eye not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary but what is unseen is eternal.

Question to Consider: How should the fact that life on earth is temporary assignment change the way I am living now?

Hard Candy Review

I went out at 8am and got my copy of the new Madonna CD "Hard Candy." Madonna was rumored to take an R&B and Hip Hop route on her new CD enlisting the likes of Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and Pharell Williams. She released her first single "4 Minutes to Save the World" featuring Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. The song lacked a hook but definitely had a good beat. It wasn't the best Madonna song but it is the most successful song in 8 years in both the radio and charts.

Thats what Madonna wanted to do. I was really confused as to why she enlisted the top producers because she usually hand picks them and molds them to what she wants her to sound to be. But even as successful as her previous albums have been she has lacked one thing that she desperately wants, commercial success from America and she has done it.

The CD is definitely more of a Techno, Urban, Disco feel. You can tell that this CD is geared towards American appeal. She doesn't steer away too much from her roots her sound is still pure dance! She is the queen of the dance floor and no one can't take that away. The CD shines in tracks like the hyper bass beat of "Give it 2 Me" the ever seductive "Miles Away" and a surprise cameo from Kanye in "Beat Goes On." There are many potential hits on this CD and the clubs are gonna love this CD. Madonna is always morphing into something new and even at 50 she still delivers something new and fresh.

Rating: Sweet and Sticky!!!!!!!

Highlights : Candy Shop, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away, Devil Wouldn't Recognize You.

Obama Changing his Tune!

Now he changes his tune? Come on now! Ya'll know this man is just fake as all hell! Hillary save us!

By MIKE GLOVER, Associated Press Writer 30 minutes ago

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Barack Obama angrily denounced his former pastor for "divisive and destructive" remarks on race, seeking to divorce himself from the incendiary speaker and a fury that threatens to engulf his front-running Democratic presidential campaign.

Obama is trying to tamp down the uproar over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright at a tough time in his campaign. The Illinois senator is coming off a loss in Pennsylvania to rival Hillary Rodham Clinton and trying to win over white working-class voters in Indiana and North Carolina in next Tuesday's primaries.
"I am outraged by the comments that were made and saddened over the spectacle that we saw yesterday," Obama told reporters at a news conference Tuesday.
His strong words come just six weeks after Obama delivered a sweeping speech on race in which he sharply condemned Wright's remarks but did not leave the church or repudiate the minister himself, who he said was like a family member. After weeks of staying out of the public eye while critics lambasted his sermons, the former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago made three public appearances in four days to defend himself.
On Monday, Wright criticized the U.S. government as imperialist and stood by his suggestion that the United States invented the HIV virus as a means of genocide against minorities. "Based on this Tuskegee experiment and based on what has happened to Africans in this country, I believe our government is capable of doing anything," he said.
And perhaps even worse for Obama, Wright suggested that the church congregant secretly concurs.
"If Senator Obama did not say what he said, he would never get elected," Wright said. "Politicians say what they say and do what they do based on electability, based on sound bites, based on polls."
Obama stated flatly that he doesn't share the views of the man who officiated at his wedding, baptized his two daughters and been his pastor for 20 years. The title of Obama's second book, "The Audacity of Hope," came from a Wright sermon.
"What became clear to me is that he was presenting a world view that contradicts who I am and what I stand for," Obama said. "And what I think particularly angered me was his suggestion somehow that my previous denunciation of his remarks were somehow political posturing. Anybody who knows me and anybody who knows what I'm about knows that I am about trying to bridge gaps and I see the commonality in all people."
Although Obama leads in pledged delegates, no Democrat can win the nomination without the support of the superdelegates, the elected officials and party leaders who can vote their preference. The Wright furor forces those Democrats to wonder about Obama's electability in November.
Facing that reality, Obama sought to distance himself further from Wright.
"I have been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ since 1992, and have known Reverend Wright for 20 years," Obama said. "The person I saw yesterday was not the person that I met 20 years ago."
The Illinois senator said of Wright's statements Monday: "All it was was a bunch of rants that aren't grounded in truth."
"Obviously, whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed," Obama said. "I don't think he showed much concern for me, more importantly I don't think he showed much concern for what we're trying to do in this campaign."
Obama said he heard that Wright had given "a performance" and when he watched news accounts, he realized that it more than just a case of the former pastor defending himself.
"His comments were not only divisive and destructive, I believe they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate," Obama said. "I'll be honest with you, I hadn't seen it" when reacting initially on Monday, he said.
Wright had asserted that criticism of his fiery sermons was an attack on the black church. Obama rejected that notion.
"He has done great damage, I do not see that relationship being the same," said Obama.
Wright recently retired from the church. He became an issue in Obama's presidential bid when videos circulated of Wright condemning the U.S. government for allegedly racist and genocidal acts. In the videos, some several years old, Wright called on God to "damn America." He also said the government created the AIDS virus to destroy "people of color."
Obama said he didn't vet his pastor before deciding to seek the presidency. He said he was particularly distressed that the furor has been a distraction to the purpose of a campaign.
"I gave him the benefit of the doubt in my speech in Philadelphia explaining that he's done enormous good. ... But when he states and then amplifies such ridiculous propositions as the U.S. government somehow being involved in AIDS. ... There are no excuses. They offended me. They rightly offend all Americans and they should be denounced."
While Obama said he remains a member of the church "obviously this has put a strain on that relationship.
"There wasn't anything constructive out of yesterday," said Obama. "All it was was a bunch of rants that aren't grounded in truth."
At one point, Obama said he understood the pressures Wright faced but wouldn't excuse his comments.
"I think he felt vilified and attacked and I understand him wanting to defend himself," Obama said. "That may account for the change but the insensitivity and the outrageousness of the statements shocked me and surprised me."

Discussing the small slip of the tongue she experienced while assessing finalist JASON CASTRO's first performance, Paula explains: "It got very confusing ... the producers come up to us in the dark and said, 'We are not going to have you guys judge after each performer, we are going to have all the performers go once, then twice and at the end critique them.'"
Surprised by the last minute switch in judging procedures, Paula recounts, "I am feverishly trying to write note for every performance." When host RYAN SEACREST asked the judges to quickly sum up the performances, Paula explains that she was trying organize her notes, saying, "I was trying to give my critique for Jason Castro, and scribbled Jason's name, and that was DAVID [COOK]'s!" She laughs, "We all just screwed up everything," adding: "This is live television, this is fun!"

Paula it aint fun when I get people texting my ass saying "someone get her to rehab quick" yo ass needs to pay attention and get with the program. Lay off the cosmos! I am really mad at you for this!

HoMo Club Alert DVD

So here's another horror movie due out October 2008 called "House". This movie is not a remake of the 1986 horror flick of the same name. The movie looks great but the most interesting part about this movie is that its a CHRISTIAN HORROR MOVIE based on the best selling Christian novel by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker.

Foxfaith was originally gonna distribute the film but because of the R rating it was dropped and picked up by Lionsgate.

HoMo DVD Alert

Rest Stop 2: Don't look back is out!

I saw the first one and it was pretty good but the sequal looks bloodier and of course the victime count is higher.

Book Club: Purpose Driven Life Ch 5: Seeing Life from God's View

Warren says that one question he finds have many different answers as there are many different people and that question is "How do you see your life?" He has heard answers of comparing life to a circus, ten speed, rollar coaster, puzzle, dance, symphony and the list goes on. The bible list three metaphors that teach us God's View: Life is a test, Life is trust, and Life is a temporary assignment.

He says we are on daily tests to prove our love and beleif in God from opening the door for others, to treating a clerk, to managing our finances. These are all tests no matter how small or insignificant we think they are, they are actually big in the eyes of God.

Point to Ponder: Life is a test and trust

Verse to Remember: "Unless you are faithful in small matters, you won't be faithful in large ones."

Question to Consider: What has happened to me recently that I know realize was a test from God? What are the greatest matters God has entrusted to me?

Book Club: Purpose Driven Life Ch 4: Made to Last Forever

Warning, this may be a bit preachy.

This chapter is about eternity and about how life as we live it now is the stepping stone to what we were created for, eternity. But in order to live in the kingdom of God we have to accept Jesus Christ as our savior and that we love and serve him.

Life is a preparation for the next. What that is we have no proof of but we do know from the teachings that when you live in light of eternity your values change.

This chapter got a bit preachy for me but I am still with this book to see where this journey takes me. I am curious now.

Point to Ponder: There is more to life than just here and now

Verse to Remember: "This world is fading away, along with everything it creaves. But if you do the will of God, you will live forever.

Question to Consider: Since I was made to last forever, what is the one thing I should stop doing and the one thing I should start doing today?

Book Club: Purpose Driven Life Ch 3: What Drives Your Life?

In this chapter the author becomes a bit more interesting. He says we are all driven by something. Some are driven by guilt, some by resentment & anger, others by fear, many by the need for approval, and some by materialism. Warren says that there are other forces that drive us but they all lead us to the same dead end: unused potential, unnecessary stress, and an unfulfilled life. Nothing matters more than knowing God's purpose and nothing will compensate for not knowing.

According to Warren there are 5 benefits to a purpose driven life (yep only 5, not more not less.)

  1. Knowing your purpose gives meaning to your life

  2. Knowing your purpose simplifies your life

  3. Knowing your purpose focuses your life

  4. Knowing your purpose motivates your life

  5. Knowing your purpose prepares you for eternity

A couple points stuck out in my head:

"We are products of our past but don't have to be prisoners."

This is so true we often become prisoners of our past afraid to let go and live. Often we try to understand or figure out the questions of our past rather than learn from the results which lead us to become prisoners.

"Withour a clear purpose, you will keep changing directions, jobs, relationships, churches, or other externals hoping the change will settle the confusion of fill the emptiness in your heart."

Another great point that many of us are still trying to clear or figure out. The many paths that we take is not necessarily a bad thing. We have to try new things in order to know what it is that we are here for. I don't think the author agrees with people often changing directions. He feels that its because we are not one with God that we do this and I don't agree.

Point to Ponder: Living on purpose is the path to peace

Verse to Remember: " You Lord, give perfect peaceto those who keep thier purpose firm and put their trust in you."

Qustion to Consider: What would my family and friends say is the driving fource of my life? What do I want it to be?

Designer Sandra Tanimura said she decided to introduce the designs as her customers wanted very low trousers - but had difficulty keeping them up.She said: "We specialise in making low-rise trousers and our customers wanted them to get even lower."It was very difficult meeting these demands without the trousers falling down."I came up with the idea of using the bikini strings to let the trousers hang really low without falling."Our first two trouser designs were made of lycra but now we make bikini-jeans."

Book Club: Purpose Drivien Life Ch.2 "You Are Not An Accident"

I know I am a bit behind posting the daily chapters of this book and I apologize. We are suppose to read a chapter a day in order to go through the 40 day spiritual journey of finding our purpose driven life.

Chapter 2: You are Not An Accident

The author says that we are not accidents, our birth was planned by God prior to conception. He says fate. luck, nor chance have anything to do with our existance. Every part of our body and talents are planned by God including our race and nationality.

Rick Warren sayds that "there is a God who made you for a reason, and your life has profound meaning! We discover that meaning and purpose only when we make God the reference point of our lives."

The author was quite repetitive in this chapter. The chapter was short but it felt like over and over he kept saying we are not an accident. I think this chapter was not completely necessary as he even included a poem as a filler. I agree that we are not accidents and we have a purpose and meaning to our lives. Finding them is the task. He did include some great points in the chapter though:

  • We have illegitimate parents not illegitimate children.

  • Love is the essence of God's character

  • God made us as an expression of his love

Warren leaves us with the following:

Point to Ponder: "I am not an accident."

Verse to Remember: "I am your Creator. You were in my care even before you were born."

Question to Consider: I know that God uniquely created me. What areas of my personality, background, and physical appearance am I struggling to accept?

Ya'll notice the last question did not include sexuality? If God created us uniquely then he created me as a gay man for a purpose. Why did the author not address that part? I have a couple of guesses.

Dance Like There's No Tomorrow (My Journey Back to Dance)

I went to my hip hop class last Wednesday and my bf wanted to join me. It was so exciting for us to take this class together and I must say that the bf has got soul up in him. He gave me a run for my money.

We did our warm ups as usual and then we learned our combination. So the teacher says "let's do it with music." so he presses play and what do I hear??? Dance Like There's No Tomorrow by Paula! Ken said surprise! We learned an entire dance combination to that song and it was hot! I thought I was in Paula's actual video. Ya'll know I was creaming in my pants!

Needless to say it was a total Paula Moment.

Crush Season Opener

It was our season opener yesterday as a new team in a new division. It was drama getting to the park because there was a marathon and we could not get into the field to park.

I was a mess because I thought we were going to be late and forfeit our game. But luckily we got there on time.

Our first game we lost by 1 run in extra innings. It was a good game we were up by 7 at one point but we couldn't keep it together.

Our second game we won! It was a good game with some good hits as well as some great catches made by the entire team. We played surprising well in this division and we hope to get better as the season continues.

Our sister team lost both games, the Vintage Reds had a rough season opener but its only the first game. Hopefully as the season continues they can age to perfection.

Crush 1 1
Vintage Reds 0 2

Crushhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Dance Like There's No Tomorrow (My Journey Back to Dance)

I have another dance audition on Sunday May 4th. I will keep you posted.

Mariah Carey Lip Synching Again!

Marah Carey pulls an Ashlee Simpson!

Mariah Carey caught up lip synching again! This bitch is soooo fake its ridiculous! See I ain't hating on lip synching because sometimes when you dance you really can't sing. Mariah use to dog and talk about everyone that lip synchs. She thought she was so much better than everyone else and now look at this fake biotch!

Mariah was on GMA performing and her track started playing before she started singing. She turned around and started to singing the word "hey." She had sunglasses on but ya'll know she looked pissed as hell. Someone got fired on Friday cuz she looked soo Ashlee Simpson without the dance!

JLo Reality????

Um, WHY???????????????????????????????????

JLo will be starring in her own reality show that showcases her daily life as a singer (barely, her last album hasnt even sold 200,000 copies. Paula's single sold more than her album), actress (Um, the last movie she did "El Cantante" was a box office bomb.), designer (who the hell wears her clothes anymore?), wife (yeah sorry about that skeletor husband), and mother (this would be worth watching). The show will debut on TBS and will be produced by Mark Consuleos & Kelly Ripa.

Why? I would be curious to see JLO as a mom. Can you see it? She's trying to teach her kids to speak ghetto! I love it! I say do it!

Satr Jones Files For Divorce

Star filed for divorce almost a month ago confirms ET. In a statement she made to Entertainment Tonight she said:

"Several years ago I made an error in judgment by inviting the media into the most intimate area of my life. A month ago I filed for divorce. "The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life that requires privacy with one's thoughts. I have committed myself to handling this situation with dignity and grace and look forward to emerging from this period as a stronger and wiser woman."

Ok, like ya'll didnt see this coming! I have added two pics below to tell the story of why she is divorcing Al.

Can you guess???? Here's a clue 3 letters.

In the words of my girl Wendy Williams "CUZ HE'S GAY YOU DONKEY!" No straightman would wear that shit.

New Fergie!

Ok, here are the deets (details)

She is everywhere! She just recorded the theme song for the "Sex & the City" movie. Her new song "Labels or Love" incorporates the begining theme music to the show. I looooooooove it!!! Fergie rocks my sack!

Book Club: Purpose Drivien Life Ch.1"It's All About God"

I was listening to the radio and my girl from Kiss FM Nina Chantell was saying that people always think she's ghetto. She said " If ya'll think I'm ghetto now, ya'll shoulda met me a few years ago but I's Changed." She claimed that she read the book "The Purpose Driven Life" and it changed her life.

I'm always up for enlightening my soul and going through spiritual growth so I wanted to read the book. I knew nothing of this book other than it helped Nina get to a better place. I told my boyfriend I wanted to read it and he had two copies of the book and said he wanted to as well.

There is a method to reading this book. You have to read one chapter a day and discuss the chapter with someone. I thought, great! This is perfect for the boo and I to discuss. I will tell you a brief summary each day of what the chapter says on the blog. Here I go:

Chapter 1 "Its All About God"

Ok, the book and I got off on the wrong start with the first sentence.

It's not about you!

What? It aint? Then who is thinking of me? What the author was saying is that we really need to focus what life is about, God. He says focusing on ourselves will never reveal God's purpose for us. Asking ourselves self centered questions like What should I do with my life? What are my goals, my ambitions, my dreams for my future? These are not the questions to ask. So he wants us to search within God our purpose of life.

He leaves us with a few points at the end of the chapter:

Point to Ponder: It's not about you

Verse to Remember: Everything got started in him and find its purpose in him.

Question to Remember: In spite of all the advertising around me, how can I remind myself that life is really living for God and not myself.

I didn't realize this book was so Christian based, I thought is was one of those new age self healing books which the author rejects. I don't know how effective he is but I am willing to read this book to see what his views are. These are his views not mine. I agree with some and disagree with others. Just thought it may be food for discussion at your next dinner.

American Idol Recap!

Last night was Anderw Lloyd Weber night. If ya'll is asking who? Ya'll need some culture ASAP. So the remaining 6 had to choose a song from all of his work. Here goes the recap

Seysha (Can't Stand You) Mercado

sang: One Rock & Roll Too Many

She was good, she did the whole Michelle Pfeiffer on top of the piano and sang her ass off. But honestly, this chick lacks some serious likability! She is not likable and we all know she aint gonna win.

David Archuleta

Sang: Think of Me

He sang a girl song but he sang it well. He kept his eyes open almost throughout the entire song, finally. The problem with David is that he is boring the hell out of me. I need some pep from him ASAP!

Jason (Yawn) Castro

Sang: Memories

Jason song Memories from Cats. Homeboy never heard the song and never knew it was sung by a cat. He was horrible! The song was way too big for him and he really gots to go soon cuz he don't wake my ass up.

Brooke (oh no she didn't) White

Sang: You Must Love Me

She sang a new song for the movie Evita. I looooove this song and Madonna won an Oscar for that song. Andrew told Brooke that she needed emotion and to beleive in the song. She performaned the song and messed up a lyric in the begining. She stopped the band and asked them to do it over. So she started over and sang the song. It wasn't as bad as the judges thought and she did show emotion in the song but "oh no she didn't" stop and re-start. That is a big NO! She's in trouble.

Carly Smithson

Sang: Jesus Christ Superstar

She originally picked some ballad and Andrew was like oh hell naw! You need to sing something else, and that she did. I thought she was fantastic! She was energetic and vocally she was the bomb but her dress stole the show! Love it!

David Cook

Sang: Music of the Night

Homeboy can SANG! He sang the shit out of that song and even outshined the star of the movie who sang it. He was the bomb ass diggity!

My Prediction

Bottom Three: Seysha (aint no one like her), Jason, Brooke

Going Home: Jason

But don't rule out a shocker! Usually at this time we have a shocking elimination.

Smell Yo Dick! The video!

BSD (Old Bitter Bitty)

Ok, I went to a fruit market yesterday by the house to get some grub. I had to get a cart but I see that you had to insert a quarter in order to use the cart and I had no change so I took a basket. I was walking around and saw and old sweet lady unloading her cart and ready to put it back. I went up to her and asked her "Excuse me, do you mind if I take your cart?" She then extends her hand and says "Yeah you got a quarter?" I said no, I have no change , sorry. She then said "I guess you don't have a cart either." and walked away.

Aint that some shit! I got read and told by a bitter old bitty! So I gots to Bitch Slap her ass for being unkind and unwilling! How rude!

Gossip Girl! Recap

The best show on TV was back on last night with a new episode appropriately titled: "The Blair Bitch Project"

S has been getting some trashy gifts over mail and even got some coke delivered to her with a note signed love G. Its the introduction of Gina who will be the new bad girl of GG played by former Buffy star Michelle Tranchenburg.

B and Jenny have been at each other's throat. Jenny has been acting like the new bad girl in town with one problem, money. Jenny is not nearly as rich as B. We under estimate Jenny cuz just we you think she has been checked by the Queen B she trumps B at the last min.

The show is sooooooo hot! Love it and I love the new ad!

OMFG!!!!!!!!!!!

Next Week: G comes to town with a whirlwind of trouble.

Paula Reschedule's Today Show Performance

Paula cancelled her April 25th performance to kick off the Today Show Concert series. It has now been confirmed that she rescheduled it for Friday August 29th. Read below:

This is from the NYPost.com, Michael Starr's blog: OK, so now Paula Abdul will perform on the "Today" show, after canceling her original April 25 live performance (part of the show's summer concert series). Abdul is now scheduled to appear on "Today" Friday, Aug. 29 - the first show back in New York following "Today's" two- week sojourn to Beijing for the Summer Olympics. Abdul's rep said yesterday that, "She looks forward to performing for her loyal and supportive fans and being a part of the prestigious 'Toyota Concert Series on 'Today,'"- attributing the cancellation of Abdul's April 25 "Today" performance to a "production commitment" on "American Idol."

This makes perfect sense. Her new album is scheduled for a Sept release date and she needs to promote it. The April performance made no sense due to the fact that the single has run its course after it debut in January. Paula is playing this quite smart and effectively. She will perform a new single for her new album.

Paula Talk!

Ever wonder what the fuck Paula is saying? I just found this great translation from Paula Talk to English. Enjoy!

Paula: You know I'm a huge fan of yours.

English: Wow am I disappointed in this performance. I thought you could sing, what the hell just happened?

Paula: I'm just so proud of you.

English: You didn't trip or forget your lyrics. Good for you!

Paula: Touchdown!

English: That was a really good performance.

Paula: You stayed true to yourself.

English: Well that was the same old crap you give us every week.

Paula: You look amazing/beautiful tonight.

English: Well at least you look a helluva lot better than you sing. Maybe that'll get you some votes.

Paula: It was a little pitchy in places, but I still love you.

English: Please don't hate me.

Paula: You're all just so talented and amazing.

English: You didn't do anything to make yourself stand out, in fact I've already forgotten that you just performed.

Paula: I'm sorry, it wasn't great for me.

English: Oh my god! I just threw up a little in my mouth from your singing. What the f---!

Paula: This is just the beginning of your career.

English: I hear the McDonald's down the street is hiring.

Paula: I just want to squeeze you, pinch your head off, and dangle it from my car's rear view mirror.

English: What does a girl have to do to get a refill around here? This Coke cup's not gonna refill itself!
